Are the weddings you perform legal?
Yes. I have been licensed by the Province of Ontario to perform weddings.
What is humanism?
Humanism is an outlook or system of thought that attaches prime importance to human, rather than divine or supernatural matters. Humanist beliefs stress the potential value and goodness of human beings, emphasize common human needs and seek rational ways of solving human problems.
Do you issue marriage licenses?
No. You obtain marriage licenses from the municipality where you live.
Do you perform same-sex marriages?
Yes. I can perform any wedding legally permitted in Ontario.
Do you require or offer premarital counselling?
No. The only requirement is a marriage license.
Where can the ceremony take place?
The ceremony can take place anywhere you like. It can be at your home, in your backyard, at a winery, at a hotel or a favourite outdoor location.
Do we need to have witnesses?
Yes. You need to have two witnesses and they need to be present at the ceremony.
Do I have to be a Humanist?
No. I can conduct a ceremony for anyone who would like to have a secular wedding or memorial service.
Do you have sample ceremonies available?
Yes. I have many samples available that you can use or customize to your liking.
How long is a typical ceremony?
Usually about 20 minutes, but the length can vary depending on the type and length of readings, vows and music you would like.
Do you provide other services?
Yes. I can perform secular memorial services, vow renewals and baby namings.
What is your fee?
My fee is $300. This includes the materials I will send you that you can use to create your own personal ceremony. It also includes any email or telephone assistance you may require. Lastly, the fee includes the performance of the ceremony and the legalities required to register your marriage with the Province of Ontario.
